"Recovering" passwords?

The article currently defines password cracking as "password cracking is the process of recovering passwords[1] from data that has been stored in or transmitted by a computer system in scrambled form"

The use of "recovery" here implies that the password is being extracted/decoded from information stored somwehere, when in fact the process involves guessing the password by means of any of the techniques, verified by either being able to log-in to the system, or by finding a string which hash matches that of the password, if the hash is known.

In fact, the use of "recovery" here is meaphoric figure of speach, as no actual recover is involved.
